The main story is based on fights among Princess Odette turning into a swan by magic in the daytime, Prince Siegfried trying to save her, and the devil of genius desiring to govern them. Depending on the Choreography, it ends tragically sometimes or comes to a happy ending sometimes.

It has become 'Korean's most favorite classical ballet' since the Korea National Ballet introduced it with its entirety of the original work of Petipa-Ivanov in 1977. In 2001, the Korea National Ballet introduced it with the choreography of Yuri Grigorovich's version to Korea and the performance then obtained successful result in respect of both the quality of the work and the box-office record.

The Grigorovich's version renewed to express the fight between the 'destiny (the devil) and the love (Prince)' more dramatically by expressing Rothbart, just a simple devil at first, as a genius controlling Prince Siegfried's unconsciousness. The audience is fascinated by particular arrangements in Grigorovich's , such as diverse and magnificent folk dances in the court dancing party scene, swans' fantastic Corps de Ballet in the shore of the blue tone lake and the dancing scene of graceful Princess Odette and wicked black Odile performed by the same one ballerina.

Suddenly, a mysterious knight arrives at the ball accompanied by a ravishingly beautiful young girl and a suite of black swans. It is the Evil Genius and Odile, Odette’s double.
